Naughty nightclub owners and staff in Shanghai have been prosecuted after it emerged they were mixing their customers drug cocktails, affectionately termed 'Happy Water,' reports Shanghai Daily.

The club, named the Jing'an District Club in court proceedings (not its real name), allowed customers to bring their own drugs (ketamine, amphetamine and other substances), which they would then heat up with a soft drink to produce a white liquid and serve, the Jing'an District Court heard.

The operation was unearthed in March when police raided the venue and found around 50 people supping on the delicious creation.

The co-owner and manager, surnamed Chen, has been sentenced to a year in jail, while co-owners surnamed Wang and Feng received eight-month sentences. The member of waiting staff caught preparing the drugs cocktails, surnamed Wu, received five months in detention. Surprisingly, the four were fined only a meager sum of RMB2,000 (US$322) each for the offenses.

Chinese law states that anyone who provides a sanctuary for drug taking faces a prison term of up to three years, detention or public surveillance with fines.
