Thought you could buy anything on Taobao? Not anymore. Alibaba’s e-commerce rival JD.com has just announced it will be the exclusive seller of a new line of clothing aimed at the Chinese market from none other than Taylor Swift.
The news comes ahead of T-Swift’s three sold-out-sold Shanghai shows in November, part of her 1989 tour.
Swifty is hugely popular in China, where fans have given her the affectionate nickname ‘Moldy.’ (There’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for that.)
JD.com, China's second biggest e-commerce retailer after Alibaba, said the clothes, which will include dresses, sweatshirts and tops, have been designed “exclusively for JD.com customers.” Jack Ma is probably on the phone with Katy Perry as we speak.
Tay Tay’s new threads will likely be sold on JD’s U.S. Mall platform, a new channel for Chinese customers to buy “authentic American” products, like Samsonite luggage and Ocean Spray cranberry juice, according to CNN. Nothing more authentically American than the Pennsylvania-Nashville-New York-native, we say.
