Over the weekend, Chinese rail authorities opened yet another new high-speed route within the country. Nothing too surprising there - except for the fact that this was the most difficult high-speed yet built, and also hopes to be the "most beautiful."
By "beautiful," authorities are referring to the route's landscape and not, alas, some hot new train design.
The new route passes between Hefei (capital of Anhui Province) and Fuzhou (capital of Fujian). The lovely landscapes shooting past passengers' windows will include the Yellow Mountain in Anhui, Sanqing Mountain in Jiangxi and Wuyi Mountain in Fujian.
The trains make stops at these lovely hiking and sightseeing destinations where passengers can trek the trails or - more likely - snap some photos and hop back aboard.
Authorities say that this was the most difficult high-speed route ever built, thanks to the countless mountains along the path. Some 85 percent of the track is built on bridges or in tunnels, according to CRI - with a route that complicated, it's surprising that it got built at all.
This Hefei-Fuzhou route is just one of the countless high-speed programs currently under construction - there are some 10,000 kilometers worth of high-speed rail that are currently being developed in China, in addition to the 16,000 km already operating.
That's a lot of rail.
