Controversy over China’s Three Gorges Dam continues after a landslide on the Yangtze River near the world's largest hydropower project left one person missing and four injured. Thirteen boats also sunk during the landslide in Chongqing's Wushan county on Wednesday.
"The incident is only the latest natural disaster that critics believe the $59 billion mega-dam has caused, twelve years after it was built on the Yangtze River to provide hydropower to China," says Quartz.
The landslide created massive waves which caused damage to other boats in the surrounding area. Fortunately, there were no passengers aboard the vessels, reducing the number of casualties.
"The missing and injured are crew [members] from the boats who were on shore when the landslide occurred," reports the South China Morning Post. "One of the injured is in a critical condition."
