A 16-year-old Taiwanese girl sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries after she was attacked by a bison while posing for a photo in Yellowstone National Park.
The girl, an exchange student, went to the park with her host family; she was within a few feet of the buffalo, with her back turned to the animal when, according to the park service, "the bison lifted its head, took a couple steps and gored her."
According to CNN, "every year, some visitors are gored by bison," which sounds like a pretty nonchalant way to describe the fact that every year people are freaking mauled by giant husky cow-things in a national park run by the USA. It's a tidbit that we assume Yellowstone doesn't print on its brochures.
The park service recommends visitors stay at least 25 yards away from bison - the girl was within six feet of the animal. She should be Ok (read: alive), and will have a very unique story to tell about her time studying abroad.
