The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published the biggest ever global school rankings, comparing how well teenagers perform in math and science tests across 76 countries and territories worldwide - the first truly global survey of its kind.
The top five spots were all taken by countries in East Asia. Singapore came in first followed by Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. Vietnam also made an impressive showing at 12th place, ahead of both Germany and Australia.
Canada placed tenth in the tables, which based on an amalgamation of international assessments. The United Kingdom came in at 20th and America was left behind at 29th. Once a shoe-in for the top five, Sweden has slipped all the way down to 35th, while neighbor Finland was the highest-ranking non-Asian country.
Chinese mainland was not ranked.
