A Beijing security guard surnamed Xu who killed his roommate last year is now standing trial for his crime in a Beijing court.

On May 27 last year, Xu, 49, drunkenly smashed his newly arrived colleague's head against the wall in their room at the security guards' dormitory. The victim, surnamed Zhang, reportedly had "unbearably" smelly feet and wouldn't wash them when commanded to do so by Xu.

When Xu found Zhang dead in his dunk the following day, he fled the city and was on the run from the law for over a year until this summer, when he was arrested by police on June 16.

Xu has plead guilty and says he "accepts his fate."
