Acclaimed Scottish historian Niall Ferguson has been named a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua Unviersity.
Previously, Ferguson has boasted stints at Harvard University, the University of Oxford and Stanford University. He is best known for his provocative, contrarian views on how Britian and America used imperialism to become global cultural and economic superpowers.
“I am honored to be affiliated with Schwarzmann Scholars and Tsinghua University,” he said. “Schwwarzman Scholars is poised to attract some of the world’s most talented students, and I am looking forward to engaging with them as they hone their leadership skills, develop a deeper understanding of China and study some of the major geopolitical factors that will affect future generations.”
Ferguson’s books include “Empire: how Britian Made the Modern World,” “The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World” and “Civilization: The West and the Rest,” all of which have been turned into a TV series. As a man who based his living on arguing the benefits of Western imperialism pressed onto China, he is a very odd choice for the Tsinghua post indeed.
