Faking it: Schools for Fools

Along with ever-lengthening historical pedigrees, fireworks, smog and incredibly good cheap food, no one can touch China on fakes. From fake police to fake Lamborghinis (and fake eggs, of course) there’s so much copying, it’s practically creative.

And what better place to learn than one of China’s many fake universities? Well, you’re in the right place! A list published by sdaxue.com shows that 70 of the 100 purported fake universities identified were based in Beijing, and “typically include ‘Beijing,’ ‘China’ or ‘Capital,’ in their names” theGlobal Times reports. For example, the “China Posts and Telecommunications University attempted to confuse students with the famous Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.”

Such schools are not authorized to enroll students, let alone issue degrees, the paper explained, adding that, as ever, Shanghai trailed in the ranks. Sounds like those shady Pudong consultants need to up their game.
