‘Start Morning Commute Earlier’ – BJ Traffic Management Bureau

With the new school year set to start in Beijing this week, the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau has issued some advice for morning commuters.

Roads nearby primary and middle schools are set to be busier during weekday mornings. The Bureau estimates that the weekday morning rush hour will start around 6.45am, as opposed to around 7.30am during the school summer holidays.

Morning commuters may want to consider starting their commute around 30 minutes earlier than usual, especially in Haidian, Xicheng, Dongcheng and Chaoyang districts – this applies to both commuters on the road and those taking public transport.

Beijing’s primary and middle school students will return to school on Thursday, September 1. Parents and students are reminded that on the first day of school, anyone entering the school grounds should show proof of a negative nucleic acid test result issued within 48 hours.
