Since April 22, Beijing has recorded 892 locally transmitted cases of COVID-19, as reported at the 331st Press Conference on COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention and Control by the Beijing Information Office; the figure has already surpassed the number of cases recorded in the 2020 outbreak linked to the Xinfadi Wholsesale Market.
It comes as residential lockdowns take place in certain areas, restaurants and bars move to take away only, and many non-essential shops across the city are closed. A number of parks and tourist sites have also been closed, while some subway stations are closed and bus routes limited.
Between 3pm, May 10 and 3pm, May 11, Beijing reported 56 new locally transmitted cases with six in Chaoyang district, 36 in Fangshan, eight in Fengtai, three in Haidian, one in Shunyi, one in Xicheng and one in Dongcheng.
