The Shichahai ice skating rink, encompassing Houhai and Qianhai, was closed on January 21to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Those who pre-booked tickets for the popular outdoor skating spot have been able to claim refunds as of January 20.

The latest measure comes in response to two new confirmed cases in Beijing’s Daxing district, both of whom were found to have contracted the more contagious B117 strain first discovered in the United Kingdom.

One residential neighbourhood in Daxing has been declared as high-risk, while a number of medium-risk areas remain in the Shunyi district.

There has been no indication of when the Shichahai ice rink will re-open.
