Since its announcement in 2014, the Universal Beijing Resort project in Tongzhou has been drumming up anticipation as to what kind of fun and exciting attractions will be on offer.

The theme park is reportedly building a retail and dining complex, Universal CityWalk, featuring a movie theater, award-winning restaurants and two accommodation options. The first-ever Universal-themed hotel, The Universal Studios Grand Hotel will have a contemporary interpretation of the Hollywood Golden Age, designed in a classic Spanish architectural style. Meanwhile, the NUO Resort Hotel will provide a luxurious and picturesque escape, exemplifying China’s ancient royal gardens.

Earlier this month, the resort revealed a lineup of seven themed lands: Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Transformers: Metrobase, Minion Land, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, Hollywood and WaterWorld.

Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness is the world’s first theme park area created around the animated film’s theme. Set in ‘Legendary China,’ the amusement zone will feature the franchise’s most beloved icons, including the Jade Palace, Panda Village and Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom. The first theme park land dedicated to Transformers in the world, Transformers: Metrobase is filled with Cybertronian architecture and advanced technology, located on an Energon-rich site that serves as the N.E.S.T. Beijing headquarters – a top-secret zone where an alliance between humans and autobots is developed to protect Earth.

Jurassic World Isla Nublar is an island of wonder and thrills where tyrannosaurus rex, velociraptors, ankylosaurs and the fearsome indominus rex will all roam free. Meanwhile, Minion Land will be filled to the brim with mischievous yellow Minions and plenty of ‘Ba-na-na!’ silliness for the whole family.

Bringing Hollywood Boulevard to China, the Hollywood’s Lights, Camera, Action! attraction will invite visitors to take a the behind-the-scenes look at the glitz and glamour of movie special effects. For Beijing’s WaterWorld – Universal theme parks’ popular stunt show of a one-of-a-kind ‘battle on water’ – there will be thrilling performances and daring stunts as part of the show, along with a dining and entertainment area.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade is an award-winning experience that will be made up of multiple groundbreaking attractions, shops, restaurants and more, complete with all the special touches – snow-capped roofs and cobblestone streets – that characterize the whimsical look and feel of the celebrated books and films.

This new destination is adjacent to Beijing's East 6th Ring Road and the Jingha (Beijing-Harbin) Expressway, and will be served by a dedicated subway station with two lines – the east extension of Line 7 and the south extension of Batong Line, which are both currently under construction. Universal Beijing Resort is expected to complete construction and open in 2021.
