Gulou’s latest pop-up is a collaboration looking to satisfy Beijing’s thirstiest hypebeasts. Open through October, Riching is a hip-hop tea shop crossover, sponsored by Rap of China, the famed iQiyi-backed rap competition TV show. Yes, it’s Rap of China meets… iced tea. And we don’t mean Ice-T, you know, the rapper – we mean actual iced tea.
These monstrous (seriously, this cup is the size of our head) drinks come in different super-loaded varieties, filled with chunks of fruit and artificial flavors like the passionfruit-based Hundred Supremacy (RMB22) and coconut-flavored Yo Yo Yo Yo (RMB19). Also on offer: fancy boxed desserts, milk-based teas and, for some reason, beer, such as the Very Hip Beer (RMB18), enhanced with cherry blossom.
Is it a strange marketing concept? Undoubtedly. But hey, do as the shop’s slogan demands: “Farewell advice, forget the rules, my world, call the shots.”
