Scene & Heard: Smash

Have you ever had the urge to – oh, I don’t know, just spitballing here – say, smash a TV with a spiked baseball bat? What if we told you that there was a place where you could do just that? Tap into all that rage burning inside you and unleash your dark side at Smash, Beijing’s first-ever ‘destructotherapy’ center in 798. The cutting-edge brainchild of the guys that brought you Palms L.A. and Taco Stop, this installation is all about good old-fashioned stress release and since its grand opening, it’s been a smashing success. Solo sessions start at RMB220 and go up to RMB700 for a bigger squad – a modest price to pay for a room, a safety suit and a bin full of glass goodies to do with whatever you please. For fervent spenders, you can upgrade your “weapons” and opt for big-ticket items like lamps, printers and old flatscreen TVs. Also on offer: refreshers like unusual energy drinks (RMB12-22) and Slow Boat brews (RMB35-40). So go bananas. Just maintain a small dose of civility and don’t start smashing the wall, OK?
