Beijing Tightens the Reins on Shared Bikes

In an attempt to slow down the influx of shared bikes in Beijing, city authorities have announced that they will be soon be enforcing stricter regulations.

If you've been in Beijing for at least five minutes, you know it's almost impossible to walk down a block without being greeted by a cluster of bright bikes obstructing public spaces.

The shared bike mania has spun out of control in the city with 1.9 million bikes being reported in late April, as reported by ECNS. Although this number has seen a serious decrease from last September, when it was reported to be around 2.4 million, according to BBC. Since then, there has been a suspension of new bike deliveries.

Additionally, the Beijing Traffic Commission has reported that it will work to prohibit additional bikes by allowing old bikes to be traded in for new ones.
