Our Eat-and-Workout Weekend at ACROSSFOODFEST

TRIBE, Crossfit Huangcheng and Foison Beijing joined forces last month for ‘ACROSSFOODFEST,’ a mini-festival packed full of fitness, food and good times.

Held during the last weekend of October at Beijing Longwan International Camping Park in Yanqing, northwest of Beijing, the event was a killer time from start to finish thanks to experienced trainers, great facilities and an energetic crew.

Here’s a recap of the event.

We meet at TRIBE Sanlitun where we enjoy breakfast and coffee – excellent fuel for the early morning start (OK, 9am, but it’s a Saturday, guys) – before hopping onto the bus. Destination: Longwan International Camping Park. Situated in Yanqing County, the picturesque spot is China’s “first five-star camping site.”

After checking into our comfy cabins (seriously, they’re nicer than our own digs in Beijing), we tuck into a rural-style lunch onsite before our outdoor CrossFit workout.

But first, we warm up. Our warm-up is a dance-inspired funk-fest with beats by DJ Dumpling. We try to pull off all the stretches-cum-dance-moves – or maybe it’s the other way round. Either way, we are pumped.

Rock Qian, founder of Rock Fitness and a TRIBE Nutrition ambassador leads our CrossFit group challenge. The session includes a mix of box jumping, ball throwing and kettle bell swinging, as well as burpees. We sweat, we laugh and we cry, but it’s all in good fun. Those who finish first are awarded sweet prizes from the event sponsors, like Casio G-Shock watches.

In the evening we chow down on a buffet dinner, courtesy of TRIBE, watch a hip hop performance by UndergradeA, and dance to DJ Dumpling's set. It’s a little cool out in the mountains, but luckily we’ve got a fire to keep us warm. The chill vibes and friendly peeps have got us dancing around the fire by the end of the night.

After a refreshing sleep, we get up early the next morning for a run around the beautiful lake. Led by Qian, the run is easy-going and energizing. A relaxing yoga sesh by the lake follows. But this isn’t your average yoga class: With Vivian Dong Juan as our teacher, we stretch individually before completing a few partner exercises and even group exercises. The class encompasses headstands, massages, and more. Dong Juan has 14 years of yoga teaching experience and it shows – her session is perfectly designed for our big group.

Workouts completed, we eat breakfast onsite and enjoy some downtime before heading back to the city at lunchtime.

ACROSSFOODFEST went by all too quickly – we couldn’t get enough of the fresh mountain air, tasty TRIBE food and entertaining workouts. But thankfully, the TRIBE crew tells us that they have more events planned for the future. So, readers, keep an eye out for TRIBE’s next bangin’ experience. We know we will be.
