5 Places to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Beijing

It appears as if Americans are the only people in the world who actually celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The Mexican holiday is a fairly sober commemoration of the Battle of Puebla in its native country, but just north of its border, it's a riotous, tequila-slinging party.

After all, who doesn’t love an excuse to drink margaritas and eat tacos? So for those of you who want to take part in this delicious – if obscure – holiday, there are a few places around town that plan to celebrate on Friday (and Saturday).

1. The Local

Order a Paloma or Frozen Margarita pitcher and The Local will throw in some free queso dip (which can be made vegetarian upon request). They’ll be running the special on Friday from 5-9pm.

See event listing.

2. Q Mex

Q Mex will be offering food and drink specials starting at 7pm on Friday. Expect plenty of tequila shots (RMB10), burritos (RMB55) and festive cocktails like Cinco’ritas (RMB55) and Bandera shots (RMB35). There will also be a live DJ providing the beats all night long.

See event listing.

3. La Social

Every weekend is a boozy, Spanish-speaking party at La Social - but you can expect things to turn up an extra notch this Friday. Things will kick off around 5.30pm and go till late.

See event listing.

4. Cantina Agave

Pop Up Disko is back and heading to Cantina Agave just in time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Cantina will also be opening their rooftop for the season starting Friday. Things will kick off at 7pm. Entry is free and there will be plenty of drink deals: RMB20 Coronas, RMB30 margaritas and sangria. DJs Chozie and El Mar will be there too.

See event listing.

5. Seis De Mayo with Club Paradise @ The Other Place

Club Paradise DJs Ted Dancin', Saucy, Chloe, Gary Boozy, Rothwell and special guest Count of Monte Disco will all get behind the decks during this epic Cinco de Mayo party at The Other Place. Expect funky tunes, BBQ and lots and lots of drinks. Note: just in case you can’t read Spanish, seis means six. So this party will be on Saturday, not Friday!

Sat May 6, 1-10pm. The Other Place, see event listing
