In light of the upcoming Miss World China final and the first-ever 2013 “Miss Kriek”—both to be held in Beijing this week—we had a look at some of China’s more eccentric pageant schemes.

Cows: China's First "Dairy Cow Beauty Pageant"

Pitting more than 200 cows against each other based on looks, milk and pedigree…not without 8 bikini-clad women standing next to them of course. No word as to whether or not the dairy industry in Shanxi’s Shanyin County has seen double-digit growth.

Goldfish: A World First

With 3,000 goldfish competing from 14 different countries, being crowned “World Goldfish Queen” was certainly no small feat. Goldfish were judged by five criteria: breed, body shape, swimming gesture, color, and overall impression. The favorite of the bunch was a 1.73 kg (3.9 pounds) stunner. According to a local fish farmer in Fuzhou, Fujian "we export goldfish worth $30 million USD every year."

Wine...Queen: 2013 World Wine Queen China

Peking University student Yuan Jiayi was recently crowned the first Chinese wine queen in Guangzhou. She’ll represent China in the World Wine Queen finals in September. Naturally, no beauty pageant is complete without a scandal.
