Are you ready for some football? (American football, that is.) We hope so because the first-ever season of the China Arena Football League (CAFL) will be starting this weekend right here in Beijing.

Beijing will be hosting the first three matches of the season at LeSports Center on October 1-2. During the next five weeks, the CAFL will be playing games in five cities across China.

During the opener in Beijing, Guangzhou Power will go up against the Qingdao Clippers (Oct 1 at 2pm). The next matchup will be the Dalian Dragon Kings versus Shenzhen Naja (Oct 1 at 7pm). And finally, the Beijing Lions will face off against the Shanghai Skywalkers on Sunday October 2 at 3pm.

CAFL founder Marty Judge hopes that China’s first professional American football league will help promote the sport in the region.

“I’m a sports lover and have practiced a lot of sports myself,” he said. “American football has always been my favorite for its emphasis on teamwork and will power. I hope to get more Chinese people, especially the kids, involved.”

Shanghai will host what has been dubbed the "China Bowl" – otherwise known as the CAFL finals – on November 5-6.
