Greatest moment ever?
When Puyol scored in the semifinal of the World Cup in 2010. I was with many friends and sitting next to one of my best friends ever. We looked at each other and he said, “F*ck! We are in the World Cup final!” It was true. It was our first time and we won. It was an amazing moment. All of my respect to the captain, Puyol.
Greatest moment in Euros?
The quarter finals with Italy in 2008. What a match! We’ve lost a lot in the quarter finals, and the general feeling was that this wasn’t going to be any different. There was crazy tension for 120 minutes and the penalties. I was with a bunch of friends at my house and everybody was thinking that we’d lost already (though no one would say it). But then it happened. Iker was amazing and it was crazy! The window was open and we could hear people in other apartments screaming... in the street, everywhere. Such an amazing moment.
Worst moment ever?
When my hometown team, Celta de Vigo (we’re small in budget but big in heart) lost the final of the King’s Cup against Zaragoza. It was the second time we lost against Zaragoza. I was a child and had traveled to Seville from Vigo for 10 hours by bus to see the match. Celta was playing amazingly at that time and the expectations were huge. I was so sad.
Worst moment in Euros?
I don’t care that much to feel bad or be unhappy, but if I have to choose it would be the 2014 World Cup. We played without that spark and the winning streak we had for many years was over. People were happy to see Spain loose. They were saying that we had won enough. Well, we won after many, many, many years loosing! I didn’t like that.
Where you and your countrymen (and women) will be watching it in Beijing?
Lugas, beermania… Where they have good beer and a friendly vibe!
Song(s) the fans sing?
Well, we Spaniards are not big on singing. We don’t even have lyrics in our national anthem!
Biggest rivals?
This year France, but I like the matches against Italy!
Star Man?
Iniesta of course. He has experience, technique, vision in the middle of the field and he’s cold blooded.
One to watch?
Nolito! That’s what my heart says. He is one of the best players on my home team Celta de Vigo, and he played a big role in putting Celta in the highest positions of La Liga. I believe if the coach can trust him we will see him shine!
Bad Boy?
Ramos…always showing a bit of attitude. He can mean trouble.
Boy Blunder?
I don’t want to say it. I don’t want to make a gaffe! Maybe Piqué, maybe Ramos. Both show attitude and are used to being privileged on their teams.
Heart Throb?
Nolito again! He wants to show the world what he can do, and I hope he gets to do it!
So what are your chances?
Along with everyone else, we will try our best. You never know!
