Kick off the weekend in style at the Orchid's anniversary party. In celebration of its fifth year, the Orchid will be serving up RMB40 glasses of wine and Cocchi spritz paired with light appetizers. DJ Mitch L Milano will also be playing his fancy tunes.

Fri May 6; 3-8pm, free entry; The Orchid (Gulou), see event listing for details.

May 7: Laneway Hatchery Opening Party

201605/laneway1.jpg

There’s a lot going on this Saturday, but Hatchery might just be the place to be for sunset. They are celebrating the opening of their outdoor eating area with a big bash. Jing-A will be there, kegs in tow, and they’ll be selling buy-one-get one craft beers from 5pm to 7pm. White Tiger Village Barbecue will provide some finger-lickin’-good grub. And, of course, there will be an outdoor area with a spritz bar and frozen cocktails. Finally, there’s 50 percent off Mighty Mo’s no-shell menu. If you want a full rundown of the party, head here

Sat May 7; 5pm-late, free entry; Hatchery, see event listing for details.

May 7: Stones Throw 20th Anniversary

Independent US label Stones Throw has put out some of modern hip hop’s most important records during its two-decade history. To celebrate 20 years in the game, founder and all-around hip-hop legend Peanut Butter Wolf heads up a killer lineup for an anniversary tour of Asia that stops in Beijing on Saturday. He’ll be joined by Egyptian Lover, who shows off Stones Throw’s more electro-minded side. But the thing we’re looking forward to most is a special live collaboration between producer Knxwledge and rapper Earl Sweatshirt (pictured) who, alongside the likes of Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean was a member of influential collective Odd Future.

Sat May 7, 9pm; RMB100 (in advance), RMB150 (door); 751 D-Park, see event listing for details.

May 7: Funk Fever Farewell Bash

201605/FunkFever21.jpg

For over seven years, Funk Fever nights have brought a much-needed groove to Beijing’s nightlife scene. But co-founder Bite-Size Buddha is on his way out of the capital for good, and the long-running parties will leave with him. Save your tears and say goodbye with a final get-down on the terrace at Migas.

Sat May 7, 10pm-late; RMB60; Migas, see event listing for details.

May 7: Sarah Farina @ Dada

She may have emerged from a techno-heavy Berlin club scene, but Sarah Farina’s wide-ranging sets span genres as diverse as juke, drum ‘n’ bass and UK funky. It is this very variety that has led her to dub her style ‘Rainbowbass.’ For a taster of what to expect, jump online and check out her 2013 and 2014 Boiler Room sets. Farina has played alongside the likes of Kode9, dBridge and Disclosure, and this time she’s joined on the bill by the UK’s Harikiri. If that name sounds familiar, then you may have caught him ripping it up at The Syndicate Sessions in October. Support comes from Bloodzboi, Dokedo and Oshi (from the party’s organizers, The Drop).

Sat May 7, 10pm-5am; RMB60; Dada, see event listing for details.
