Cherry Blossoms, Crowds and Selfies at Yuyuantan Park

Yep, it’s that time of year again. And despite the fact that it looks like a winter wonderland outside, spring is in the air – quite literally. During the past couple days you might have noticed flurries of little cotton-ball-like puffs floating in the air. Beijing’s annual catkin phenomenon is definitely an annoyance but it also signifies that things are in full bloom here in the city. And it seems like everyone is flocking to Beijing’s parks to see the magic firsthand.

Along with thousands upon thousands of other sightseers, we braved the crowds at Yuyuantan Park last weekend to check out all the prettiness for ourselves. We knew it would be crowded but what we didn’t know is just how crowded it would be. Yuyuantan is home to roughly 2,000 cherry trees so its no wonder that it is one of the more popular spots in the city to view the cherry blossoms. But the sheer volume of people actually turned out to be part of the draw. We’re not sure what was more entertaining, seeing all of the colorful cherry blossoms or watching others as they struck the perfect pose underneath the trees.

For your viewing pleasure, here are a few photos from our day at the park:
