You know we love to get creative with our beers at Beersmith, but this time we have created something really out of the blue — or rather, out of the purple!
Our latest release, Violet Volt, is a fruity sour with a hint of salt and a unique light purple colour.
To make this brew, the Beersmith brewing team used a method called kettle souring. Also known as quick souring, this technique allows brewers to create tangy, tart beers in a matter of hours or days rather than months. After the beer acidified in the kettle, the team hit the fermented brew with a big dose of Mosaic hops, know for their tropical and berry notes, as well as fresh pineapple puree.
Not content with leaving it there, the brewers then added vibrant butterfly pea flowers, usually seen in Southeast Asian drinks and desserts. Once added to the tanks, the butterfly pea took the colour of the beer from a pale straw to a striking light purple.
