At the beginning of the artistic process, Santiago Alemán is directing his creative attention to the observation of the urban and natural environments, in particular focusing on forms, colors, shapes, textures and materials, that are finally translating into abstract compositions. Hidden behind what seems to be a simple aesthetic is a multiplicity of meanings related to the concepts of social and personal evolution.
His particular interest in the vernacular is expressed through the use of local materials, unrelated to traditional pictorial techniques, which allow the artist to connect with the essence of the place where the works are created, in this case Shanghai. His abstract works leave the viewer with the possibility to interpret them in a free and subjective way.
Santiago Alemán was born in 1972 in La Almarcha (Spain) as Julian Ramirez Rentero and currently lives and works in London. Santiago’s work is currently shown at the 58th Art Biennale in Venice, Italy.
