An artist’s reflection on the Moon, civilization, time, observing and being observed, and progress in general.
Mirroring the inseparable relationship between Moon and Earth, the exhibition at JITU Creative Space revolves around dual concepts. Firstly, that Beijing can appear sometimes like the Moon; the atmosphere can be dark, grey, the air sometimes hard to breathe. But its a perfect place to be able to sit back and observe the world from.
The moon becomes a metaphor of humanity, at once bright and reflective, in symbiosis with that which it revolves around, but also keeping a dark side hidden from view, known and seen by only a select few.
On show will be McCumstie’s recent paintings, collages and cyanotype prints but also favorite works from previous years re-imagined, like the shadow projection “The Favour” (2016).
