The folk music of the US Mountains meets the Mongolian grasslands when Appalachian roots explorers The Mountain High team up with the original horse-head fiddler of Hanggai and frontman for Ajinai to play an all-acoustic show blending the two traditions.
Ahead of an encore performance at the National Center of the Performing Arts, Hegjiltu, Chris Hawke, Kirk Kenney and Paul Meredith will play traditional American, Chinese and Mongolian folk songs, as well as some original compositions.

The Mountain High Bio -
Get in high spirits with high energy folk music and dance collected from America’s Appalachian Mountains and West China. Everyone sings along with some of the songs! The Mountain High bring the audience into their performance by having everyone simple folk dances together. They play traditional American instruments like the banjo, and frequently feature guest Chinese musicians. Come strangers, and leave friends.
The Mountain High play American and Chinese folk tunes, with the audience often singing along. They also lead the audience in joining traditional American and Chinese folk dances.
Due to the interactive nature of the show, people drop their guard, meet new people and often feel euphoric by the end. At least one couple who met at a Mountain High Show got married!

The band’s passion is discovering living Chinese folk traditions, and sharing them with the world. The Mountain High has featured their fusion of Chinese and US folk music multiple times at the National Center of Performing Arts and Shanghai Concert Hall. They have played at China’s major festivals, including MIDI, JZ, and World Music Shanghai. They have been welcomed at universities, jazz clubs, museums, corporate events, embassies, private schools and music venues. They have released four CDs, including collaboration with the Yunnan folk band Manhu and the North Carolina band Jenny and the Hog Drovers. They have also produces a series of eight instructional videos teaching students of all levels how to play widely popular Chinese and American folk songs on guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle.

The band formed in 2012 in Beijing, playing traditional old time, bluegrass, gospel and country songs, originally under the name Hutong Yellow Weasels. Since then they have performed in over 30 Chinese cities, collaborating with Chinese musicians, learning both popular and authentic local folk songs during their travels.

Bio of Hegjiltu, Hangai co-founder and bandleader of Ajinai

Hailing from Inner Mongolia’s ZaLute prairie, Hugejiletu is one of China's most well-known representatives of Mongolian music traditions. Deeply influenced by his father, a highly-respected musician, he initially learned a traditional storytelling form of playing music, before picking up the horse-head fiddle and started learning throat singing. In 2005, Hugejiletu co-founded the influential Mongolian-folk-rock band Hanggai, performing and composing with the group until 2009 where he started his own project Ajinai. Apart from being a part of Ajinai, Hugejiletu also performs and tours with avant-folk group Dawanggang, whilst also garnering an impressive reputation as a solo artist. He taught The Mountain High's Kirk Kenney horse head fiddle, and sometimes collaborates with the band.

乐队喜欢去发掘中国的民乐传统，并把他们带上国际舞台。The Mountain High 乐队曾数次带着他们的中美融合的传统音乐，在北京国家大剧院和上海音乐厅举办演出。他们在中国的重要音乐节都曾演出过，包括MIDI，JZ和上海世界音乐节。他们被邀请去大学、爵士乐吧、博物馆、公司联欢会、使馆、私立学校和音乐场所演出。他们一共发行了四个专辑，其中也有和云南民族乐队蛮虎以及美国北卡乐队Jenny and the Hog Drovers合作的。他们还制作了八个视频，教各种水平的学生怎么用吉他、班卓琴、曼陀林和小提琴演奏流行的中美民族乐曲。
这个乐队在2012年组建于北京，那个时候的名字叫做胡同黄鼠狼。他们主要演奏传统音乐，如蓝草，福音音乐和乡村音乐。之后他们在全国30多个城市巡回演出，并和中国乐手合作，在旅行中学习了很多流行音乐和地方传统民乐。

胡格吉乐图：
来自扎鲁特草原的年轻艺术家、阿基耐的核心人物（蒙古族）。
擅长乐器有马头琴、四胡、口弦、陶布舒尔等。精通呼麦演唱。胡格吉乐图出生于音乐世家，其父劳斯尔是内蒙古著名的四胡好来宝说唱艺术家，深受其父影响的胡格吉乐图自幼学习四胡说书、马头琴，随后跟随蒙古国著名呼麦老师奥都苏荣学习呼麦演唱。
2005年至2009年四月，作为杭盖乐队的主要演奏成员参与各类演出，其中包括：雪山音乐节、上海朱家角音乐节、07年瑞典的Ethno音乐节、08年苏格兰SHETLAND folk festival（苏格兰民谣音乐节）、09年墨西哥OLLINKAN音乐节、作为亚洲地区唯一代表参加的加拿大蒙特利尔市Theatre Corona地球日的演出、CANADA加拿大 多伦多 多伦多大学演出、COLOMBIA哥伦比亚 波哥大 安第斯大学演出、英国伦敦Beyond the Wall及马木尔专场演出等。
接受如BBC、CNN、印度尼西亚国际电台等多家国际级媒体专访。曾经和美国格莱美获奖者美国班卓琴大师贝拉•弗里克(Bela Fleck）合作
