naked Retreats recently joined forces with musical group Yinwu to bring an unprecedented audio-visual experience called ‘Time Reverb’ to their new Rock Theatre at naked Castle. The new landmark in Moganshan, Zhejiang province is an impressive 220-seat venue cut into the side of the mountain itself. With a 20-meter-high rock face serving as an imposing backdrop, the light and sound of ‘Time Reverb’ wows the audience with themes from nebulae to light and dark to time itself.

In an immersive 60-minute performance, bird songs, tumbling creeks and natural chanting echoes through the mountains, while 3D mapping technology lights up the rock with a mesmerizing visual display. This month’s opening performance was the first in a series of concerts that promises to charm audiences and offer a unique holiday experience.

Putting the natural features of Moganshan on center stage, naked Retreats has transformed this space – which offers panoramic views across Moganshan – into China’s first natural amphitheater. Officially completed in February, this first series of public performances is putting the venue on the map as the new landmark in Moganshan.

A natural extension of the architectural language of naked Castle, the theater’s aesthetics strive to celebrate nature while complementing the history of the Castle itself. Covering an area of approximately 2,000 square meters, the Rock Theatre is nestled in mountain scenery 410 meters above sea level and surrounded on three sides with thick bamboo forest. Thoughtfully designed for prestigious events, its 20-meter-high rock face instills sounds with rich and captivating textures. The versatility and aesthetics of the Rock Theatre render it the perfect venue in which to host a range of gatherings such as outdoor concerts, plays, weddings, conferences and more.

Yinwu is a group of artists and musicians, born with the aim of innovating Chinese music and cultivating the possibilities of contemporary oriental music. In Yinwu’s music, the Chinese flute, the sounds of the marimba, percussion and electronic music intertwine to create enchanting melodies revolving around themes of nature, history, people and memories. The performance explores the purest emotional states and spirituality of human beings. Yinwu is comprised of established artists who gained popularity both in China and abroad, many of whom are the recipients of prestigious awards.

At the age of 22, Chinese flute player Rong Ying was invited to take part in the famous Chinese composer Tan Dun’s musical score for the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Rong also played for Clinton and Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda. Marimba player Zhe Lin won first prize at both the 2nd International Marimba Competition of China in 2010 and the 59th German Conservatories Competition in 2011. Their shared passion for music and nature came together, giving birth to ‘Time Reverb.’
