The news you've been waiting for is finally here: WeChat Pay is now accepting international credit cards.

Technode reports that users of the Tencent-owned platform in Chinese mainland, Macau, Taiwan and Hong Kong can now either activate WeChat Pay or connect new cards with their existing accounts using foreign credit cards. This applies to all credit card services from major providers MasterCard, Visa and JCB. Debit cards are not included.

This marks the first time users have ever been able to activate WeChat Pay without needing a Chinese bank account or card.

At the moment, international cards can only be used for payments on WeChat. Users are unable to transfer funds from WeChat to their foreign credit cards.
