Apple Moves iCloud Data to China, Here's How to Opt Out

Starting today (February 28), Apple's China iCloud services will be managed by a state-owned data firm.

The American tech company announced last month that it would be turning over the operation of Apple ID services for Chinese users to Guizhou on the Cloud Big Data (GCBD) in order to comply with new government regulations.

The new terms, which apply only to accounts registered inside China, affect all data stored on iCloud, including photos, videos, documents and backups. More details from Apple here.

Apple users based the mainland who are not Chinese citizens can opt out of having their data stored in China by switching their Apple ID account to another country or region.

Looking to switch your account? Read how to do that here; note that you'll need an international payment method.
