A 32 year old Shenzhen man required surgery after he stuck a headphone cable up his urethra, where it became lodged, Guangzhou Daily reports.

Doctors at first thought the man, surnamed Luo, was suffering from a urinary tract infection, which indeed he was; but the cause of the extreme pain that led him to the hospital was Luo's own attempt at penile surgery by ramming a cable into his urethra as a "home remedy".

Xu Chang, vice-chief of urology at the Shenzhen Shuguang Hospital, told the paper that Luo tried the procedure "several times" before the wire entered his bladder and became lodged within his body.

Fortunately for Luo, a 20 minute surgery was able to remove the 45 cm (17.7 in) wire from his body.

Last month, doctors in Yinchang city, Hubei province have removed a one metre (3.2ft) long skipping rope from the urethra of a middle aged man after he inserted it for sexual pleasure.
