Shenzhen reported zero daily symptomatic COVID-19 infections while Guangzhou saw a decrease in the number of cases for the second consecutive day.

The city of Shenzhen continues to see a large number of cases imported from Hong Kong, accounting for 19 of the 21. The remaining two imported cases both came from Japan.

In Guangzhou, there were 14 symptomatic and six asymptomatic cases. Three of the symptomatic cases were upgraded from patients previously diagnosed as asymptomatic.

As was the case yesterday, all of the infections reported today (Wednesday, April 20) were found in the city’s Baiyun District.

In response to the falling number of cases, several previously locked-down areas in Baiyun, Panyu, Yuexiu and Haizhu districts have been lifted.

Furthermore, middle schools in Guangzhou have resumed in-person teaching and Foshan announced that people can now leave the city without needing a negative nucleic acid test issued within 48 hours.

In Zhuhai, places of recreation, such as pool halls and card rooms can resume business.

People who arrive in Macao from Guangdong will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test issued within 48 hours.
