Just a year after establishing itself as one of the go-to spots in Shekou, DIY has gone full-circle with its new offering: a casual space serving Asian soul food and local wine.
Located atop DIY in the G&G Creative Community, DIY Up carries on the aesthetic and vibe of the bar downstairs. It’s understated and subtly chic, with details like ceiling drapes and velvet foldable chairs. The space almost feels like you’re walking into a trendy underground restaurant in Williamsburg or Berlin.
Supporting local is one of Up’s core values. They offer a wine list consisting of 70% Chinese wines, freshly source ingredients each morning from Shekou market and use tableware from a local family-run business.
When you walk in you’re greeted with the wine selection casually displayed in a massive ice bucket right by the door, while the chalkboard menu lists all the dishes available in Chinese.
All dishes are made to share, which means you can go wild and try a bit of everything if you’re with a group.

The menu includes dishes like marinated white clams (糟卤白蛤), crispy chicken wings (脆皮鸡翅), pan-fried water chesnut dumplings (马蹄煎饺), deviled tea eggs (魔鬼茶叶蛋), Sichuan dandanmian mac and cheese and much more.
Additionally, the seating layout adds great versatility to the space, with long tables and tatami seating on one side, perfect for large groups and celebrations, and smaller tables for intimate date-nights on the other end.

Up delivers an extremely pleasant dining experience, with some really interesting twists on classics, beautiful presentation, amazing wine selection and great service. The rugged and Japanese-inspired decor, along with its laid-back atmosphere add to the hip environment DIY had already been known for, and successfully cascades to Up.
