In need of some extra masks? Shenzhen has started giving out 200,000 free masks every other day to registered residents via lucky draw. Yesterday was the first round, and the next round will be at 10am tomorrow.

The lottery is conducted on a first come, first serve basis – to enter, search the WeChat Account “i深圳.” Next, click on “口罩预约” and fill in the booking registration form. After filling in the information, the system will audit the information within two hours and send a text message to those who fufill the requirements – do not delete this message.

The system will draw 40,000 winners each round and send text messages to the winners, who will receive a collection code. Each winner can claim a total of five masks which will be delivered to their home address in Shenzhen, free of charge. (It’s not entirely clear when the masks will be delivered, but hey, they’re free.)

Previous winners will be temporarily excluded from draws for the next 10 days and do not have to reregister as they will be included in subsequent lottery rounds.

According to Shenzhen Media Group, the account was visited by 4.17 million residents as of noon yesterday, and 3.95 million of them registered successfully. If there are 3.95 million people who register and 40,000 winners, your chances of being selected are around 1% – but there’s no harm in trying!
