Thu-Sat, Oct 10-12: Chorale Concerts: Shenzhen Serendipity

Two choirs, the 1872 Chorus and the Taipei Male Singers will gather in Shenzhen to celebrate chorale music, which is popular from the east to the west. The three-night program will include folk songs from the hometowns of both choirs, a selection from the bel canto and Lieder repertoire, newly composed songs for classical Chinese literature as well as classic pop songs.

Sun, Oct 13: Barry Douglas Piano Recital

Since winning the Gold Medal at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, Barry Douglas has established a major international career. He was the first non-Russian pianist to be honored with the award since Van Cliburn in 1958. In his debut concert at Mountain View Theater, Barry Douglas pairs Tchaikovsky’s principal works for solo piano: ‘The Seasons,’ and Mussorgsky’s warhorse ‘Pictures at An Exhibition.’

Sat-Sun, Oct 12-13: Coool-Mart: Chilll Music Live

Coool-Mart is a community craft market in Shekou which attracts a mix of foreigners and locals who come to browse local designs, treats and businesses. The theme for October’s two-day event is ‘Chilll Music Live,’ which will offer live music, music workshops, exquisite food, handmade crafts and fun games for the whole family. This is the perfect destination for a relaxing autumn weekend!

Haxnbauer in Coco Park is celebrating Oktoberfest with drink and food specials until October 20! Free flow beer will be available from 7-11pm nightly for the price of RMB119. Oktoberfest food platter combinations will also be on offering, featuring staples like roast chicken, sausages, pretzels, cheese spreads, potato salad and sauerkraut.

Enjoy 10 days of soulful live jazz performances by various acts this October at the 9th annual OCT-Loft Jazz Fest. The festival offers workshops, screenings and exhibitions curated by the B10 Live owners. Artists include Jozef van Wissem, Eli Keszler, Peter Evans, Kazutoki Umezu Trio, Vladimir Tarasov, Vladimir Chekasin and more.
