That’s Shenzhen takes a look at the best gigs of the week.
Fri, Feb 22: Lillies and Remains @ B10
One of the leading lights in Tokyo’s post punk/nu wave scene, Lillies and Remains are a silver lining to Shenzhen’s lackluster music showing in the month of February. For an introductory example to their sound, have a listen to their dark, baritone take on The Smiths’ ‘Some Girls are Bigger than Others.’ They occupy the space between Echo and the Bunnymen’s melodic post punk and the electric pop of Depeche Mode.
Fri, Feb 22: Jeremy Cheung @ Vinylhouse
Returning to perform in Vinylhouse once again, Hong Kong DJ Jeremy Cheung blends together a host of different genres and influences, including techno, deep house, minimal and more to create a unique mixture all of his own. Having performed with the likes of Peggy Gou, Four Tet and more, Cheung is one act that you don't want to miss.
Fri, Feb 22: Kangding Ray @ Oil
German DJ Kangding Ray comes to Oil this weekend, joining China-based musicians L~N, from Shanghai, and Guangzhou-based Hoodoo. Ray has become known as someone who flirts around the edges of club culture, investing himself in avant garde sounds. He has released through a number of big name techno labels and is for sure one to catch this weekend.
