Thirty six people were hospitalized after a fire broke out in the underground car park of a residential building in Biqingyuan in Luohu District, Shenzhen on February 13. At least 32 cars were also reported to have been damaged by the flames. The victims were transported to Second People's Hospital in Futian District, for treatment for smoke inhalation. No serious injuries have been reported.

The fire broke out at 2.25am on the morning of February 13 and raged for more than two hours before being extinguished, according to Shenzhen News Network. One hundred and twenty two residents were evacuated more than 20 minutes after the fire broke out, at 2.50am, and more than 100 firefighters were called to the scene, while 30 fire trucks were also on hand to battle the inferno.

The fire took place in an old residential building on Jinbi Lu, near to Sungang Metro Station in northwest Luohu District. Luohu is one of the oldest districts in Shenzhen, having been the location of a fishing village and market town prior to the establishment of the Shenzhen Economic Zone in the early 1980s.

Pictures taken at the scene show a number of cars were completely destroyed during the fire, and insurance workers were on site following the blaze to accept claims from folks living in the residential building.
