Dumpling aficionados and 'neo-Kawaii-ists,' Chai are taking their rebellious punk rock on the road this January. Their mission statement is to show the other side of Japanese cuteness and culture, while their music reflects an affection for early noughties punk bands like Le Tigre. Catch their synchronized dancing and offbeat covers at B10 this month.

Wed, Jan 9: UK Alumni New Year Gathering

Life on Mars is hosting guest bartender Hannah Keirl for an evening of exotic Australian gin cocktails. Keirl is currently based in Shanghai and has over 10 years of experience working in cocktail bars. Featuring both classic and contemporary concoctions, cocktails made during the event will transport attendees all the way from London to Perth and back again.

Unchained are presenting another fantastic event this January as they invite much adored drum and bass label Hospital Records to Oil. With big-name artists like Danny Byrd and Logistics making appearances, along with a number of local and China-based acts, this should be an evening to remember.

American-born Hong Kong-based stand-up comedian, Garron Chiu was the top winner of the 2018 Hong Kong Comedy Festival. As an Asian-American, you can catch him joking about everything from doomed relationships to the hilarious differences between the East and the West.

Born in 1962 in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, Liu Jianhua graduated from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in 1987 and now teaches at Academy of Art at Harbin University of Science and Technology. Liu frequently uses traditional Chinese elements, such as chubby ladies and auspicious clouds in his artwork, depicting the joyfulness of Chinese festivals and the concept of harmony.
