That's Shenzhen takes a look at the best gigs of the week.
Fri, Dec 7: Jeremy Cheung @ Vinylhouse
Being both a music consultant for Mixmag and a musical connoisseur who combines diverse genres like techno, deep house and nu-disco, Cheung is representative of the talent that the Fragrant Harbor possesses in terms of (musical) mixology. He also holds the record for the longest DJ set in Hong Kong history at 15 hours, so there's that too.
Fri Dec 7, 9pm; free entry. Vinylhouse. See event listing.
Sat, Dec 8: Lips Mckenzie @ Midi Livehouse
Lips Mckenzie, joined by fellow local band Thin City, make their way out to Longgang this weekend to play at the grand old (new(ish), actually) Midi Livehouse. Accordingly, both bands are building up steam to release new music, although no timeline for that has been set. Grab yourself a ticket and enjoy some of the best of what Shenzhen indie has to offer.
Sat Dec 8, 8pm; RMB50 presale. Midi Livehouse. See event listing. Tickets.
Sun Dec 9: Guan @ Oil Club

Guan has made quite a mark on the Chinese electronic music scene with his label FunctionLab. The Hangzhou-based musician comes to Oil in December to show off his unique mix of industrial techno and glitchy electronic beats. Likely to turn the club into a hot, sweaty mess. Techno fans won’t want to miss this one.
Sun Dec 9, 10pm; RMB60 presale, RMB80 at the door. Oil Club. See event listing. Tickets.
Sun, Dec 9: Little Wizard @ Hou Live
Noisy Shaoxing group Little Wizard have moments when they resemble the likes of Sonic Youth. They deviate from that script heavily however, picking out diverse and difficult rhythms a la math rock. After the release of their latest record, EP Jiequ, the band undertake this national tour.
Sun Dec 9, 8.30pm; RMB80 presale, RMB100 at the door. Hou Live. See event listing. Tickets.
