That's Shenzhen takes a look at the best gigs of the week:
Fri, Nov 16: Drumcell @ Oil Club
One of the most popular techno artists in North America, Drumcell, is coming to Oil this Friday. Drumcell moved around noise, punk and industrial music circles before falling in love with techno. Growing up in a diverse neighborhood and having made contact with a wide range of music genres, his works are anything but conventional.
Fri Nov 16, 10pm; RMB60 presale, RMB80 at the door. Oil Club. See event listing. Tickets.
Fri, Nov 16: Founders Night @ Vinylhouse
Vinylhouse co-founders Tomasz Guiddo and Zen Lu get together for an evening of deep house and ambient music this weekend. Guiddo's recent mix for Double Malt Radio is a great example of the electronic wizard's penchant for deep jazzy house, whilst Zen Lu is known as the godfather of ambient music in Shenzhen. Guiddo and Lu have helped to create a substantial part of the musical environment in the city.
Fri Nov 16, 8pm; free entry. Vinylhouse. See event listing.
Sat, Nov 17: The Last Sighs of the Wind @ B10 Live

This is not the first time Belarussian band, The Last Sighs of the Wind, have toured China. In fact, they were impressed so much by the country last time they toured here that their experience informed aspects of their most recent release, We Are Trees. Combining atmospheric post-rock and metal can make for a very heady mixture, as The Last Sighs of the Wind exhibit fantastically.
Sat Nov 17, 8.30pm; RMB90 presale. B10 Live. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Nov 17: Lionman @ Oil Club

Oil bring together a trio of funk musicians in Lionman, Dizkar and Xia Zhijun this Saturday evening. Known for wearing a traditional Chinese lion mask on stage and for his thick thumping bass notes, Lionman's distinctive style contrasts well with Dizkar's jazz-laced, static infused beats. Keen for an evening of chill beats? This is most certainly the event for you.
Sat Nov 17, 8.30pm; RMB80 presale, RMB100 at the door. Oil Club. See event listing. Tickets.
Tue, Nov 20: Virgin Suicide @ Hou Live
Virgin Suicide may or not be named after Jeffrey Eugenides' novel of the (almost) same name, we are not sure, but what we can say is that their style resembles that tale of teenage woe. This Danish band are a sickly sweet dose of raw adolescent romance and, no matter what age you are, there's something nostalgic and beautiful about first loves and loves lost. Supported by Thin City on the evening.
Tue Nov 20, 8.30pm. RMB100 presale, RMB120 at the door. Hou Live. See event listing. Tickets.
