Michelin Launches First Global Cantonese Food Guide in Guangzhou

Cantonese food is arguably one of the most wide-spread and celebrated culinary offerings from China. This is likely the reason the foodie folks at Michelin decided to publish a global guidebook wholly dedicated to the stellar South China cuisine.

Hot on the heels of the inaugural Michelin Guide Guangzhou 2018, Michelin officially launched Fine Cantonese Food by the Michelin Guide 2018-2019: Asia, Europe and USA yesterday in Guangzhou

This newest publication is the first time the Michelin Guide team has released a book focused on a specific cuisine, as opposed to a geographic location.

The guidebook, which will go on sale on December 7, includes approximately 300 Michelin Star, Bib Gourmand and Plate Cantonese restaurants spanning 15 countries and regions, including 89 in Hong Kong, 39 in Guangzhou, 29 in Shanghai, 26 in Singapore, 16 in the US and, unexpectedly, one in Norway.

"The Michelin Guide is now acclaiming, internationally, Cantonese gastronomy, which enjoys a worldwide reputation and is appreciated both in Asia, Europe, North America and in the Pacific," said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of Michelin Guides. "These establishments reflect the complexity and the richness of Cantonese cuisine and offer a varied selection adapted to all desires and all budgets."

In Guangzhou, the home of Cantonese cuisine, renowned restaurants such as Bing Sheng Mansion, Wisca and Sky No. 1 graced the pages of Michelin’s first Cantonese food guide. (To see the full list of restaurants honored in Michelin Guide Guangzhou 2018, click here).

The 360-page Fine Cantonese Food by the Michelin Guide 2018-2019: Asia, Europe and USA can be preordered on Amazon for USD24.95 and is written in both English and Chinese.
