That's Shenzhen takes a look at the best gigs of the week:

Fri Oct 19: Amber @ Hou Live

After a seven-year wait, Amber returned this year with a brand spanking new album, Yue Kai Chenguang, via fantastic post rock label 1724 Records. Whilst showcasing the fact that they have retained an ability to charm listeners, with lightly plucked guitar strokes and echoing atmospherics, Amber quickly organized a new tour around the country, with a total of 11 cities on their schedule this month.

Fri Oct 19, 8.30pm. RMB100 presale, RMB150 at the door. Hou Live. See event listing. Tickets.

Taiwanese band Kingdom of Rain bring their dark psychedelic rock to town this month. While they resemble a group of Changsha musicians by the name of Berlin Psycho Nurses,  they differ in their willingness to experiment with trip hop influences, taken via their appreciation for bands like The XX. The rockers have released demos on Xiami but fans await their new album as the guys seek to crowd-fund cash for the eventual release.

Fri Oct 19, 9pm; RMB66 students, RMB77 presale, RMB99 at the door. Brown Sugar Jar. See event listing. Tickets

Fri, Oct 19: Silicon Kure x PUBLIC Pres. Arnaud Le Texier @ Oil Club

Arnaud, who has run a record store since the 1990s, has amassed a lifetime of industry knowledge and music tastes. His five years of on-site experience at the Queen's Club in Paris and subsequent appearances across Europe have brought his DJ skills to the fore, earning him a place on the world techno music stage and still a prominent figure. Since 2006, Arnaud has settled in London and has been a guest DJ for Fabric, a prestigious club, for 10 years.

Fri Oct 19, 11.59pm; RMB40 presale, RMB60 at the door. Oil Club. See event listing. Tickets

Wang Xinxin started learning nanguan at the age of four. Since then, she's mastered various types of this Chinese ancient music and is particularly famous for her singing, thus becoming a rare well-rounded talent in the nanguan music circle. She founded the Xinxin Nanguan Ensemble, which is dedicated to promoting Chinese traditional music by upholding the principle of “the most ancient is also the most modern.” Besides, Wang is also frequently invited to perform and collaborate with traditional and contemporary musicians in the West.

Sat, Oct 20, 8pm; RMB380. Sea World Culture and Arts Center. See event listing. Tickets

Mon, Oct 22: Mariah Carey @  Shenzhen Bay Sports Center

The queen diva of pop music herself, Mariah Carey, will electrify audiences this month when she takes to the stage at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center. With 200 million record sales to her name throughout what has been a long and illustrious career, the R&B soul singer is known the world over for the powerful voice that gave us such brilliant records as Music Box, Butterfly and Emancipation of Mimi.
