Maker Week got underway in Shekou, Shenzhen on Tuesday, October 9 with creators and inventors of all shapes and sizes descending upon the Sea World Culture and Arts Center.
Also known as the National Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week 2018, Shenzhen Municipal People's Government have organized a range of events to promote innovation amongst visitors, whether you are a maker yourself or just merely a curious passerby.
Over 300 groups from 28 countries have been invited to join the government-sponsored event. Of those teams, it is expected that around 30 percent will come from outside of China.
While the scene at the Sea World Culture and Arts Center was still a bit quiet on Wednesday when That's visited, makers, entrepreneurs and innovators are expected to arrive to show off robotics, drones and gadgets of all varieties.
The Maker Faire will be the centerpiece of this creative week. It officially begins on Friday, October 12, running until Sunday, October 14. The Maker Faire is famous all over the world for promoting innovation amongst grassroots companies and entrepreneurs.
Originally a two-day festival started in the US, Maker Faire has since expanded overseas, attracting interest from creators all over the world. This is the seventh year that the Maker Faire has come to Shenzhen, the city that many believe to be the hardware capital of the world, while Maker Week has been an annual event in the city since 2015.
