Shenzhen Food & Drink Gossip: July 2018

The Scandalous Scoop is a regular feature where our editors share the latest food and drink gossip making the rounds in Shenzhen.

We’re digging:

New bars, restaurants, cafes and more in Futian with the opening up of a Shuiwei ‘talent’ housing project; Volfoni’s imminent return to Shekou with a brand-new location; restaurants in neighboring Guangzhou winning eight Michelin stars in the first-ever PRD-specific guide;

and more talk of Michelin as well as guest chefs at a food fest hitting OCT Harbour through the first half of July.

We’re done with:

The deportation of 15 foreigners to Hong Kong following a drug raid at a certain Nanshan bar; bidding a fond farewell to Shekou standbys Brew Magic Pub and Cheeky Monkey; street food’s disappearing act in Shenzhen over the last few years – at least we’ll always have squid on a stick (among other delicacies) at Dongmen.
