German Chancellor Angela Merkel is visiting Shenzhen today and tomorrow (May 24-25) while meeting with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, according to Reuters. This is her 11th time in China and the first visit following her most recent re-election, GRT Radio reports.

During her visit, Merkel hopes to improve bilateral ties with China and discuss rule of law, China’s development, equal market access and intellectual property rights, according to Reuters.

Germany's domestic intelligence agency has stated that intellectual property theft by China and other countries last year cost German companies billions of euros. As far as international topics are concerned, Merkel is also likely to discuss the importance of keeping to the Iranian nuclear deal, even after America has backed out of the agreement.

Based on media reports, Merkel is quite interested in visiting Shenzhen to see where China’s economic reform began. She also plans to visit several German companies located in the city, including a Siemens plant, according to South China Morning Post.
