Unsatisfied diners at a ramen restaurant in Shenzhen were left with a bad taste in their mouths after their reviews on popular app Dazhong Dianping received backlash.
According to a CUTV report, earlier this month users yibaimoon完颜傑 and Gandalf left a series of insulting replies on negative reviews written for Butao Ramen, in the Ping An IFC. Some of them took the form of personal attacks.
One reads: "You should go back to the Henan countryside to eat noodles, Japanese ramen is particular about fresh soup and chewy noodles. This kind of talk is really shameless........."
Other comments accused users of literally having poor taste: "Sister, you're poor. You eat McDonald's and don't mind eating bread from Nayuki. But you still hang around with people as poor as you, smearing the restaurant as a group. Looks like you're hopeless in this life."
A man surnamed Cui told CUTV reporters that after he and two friends had a unsatisfying experience at the restaurant last November, one of them left a negative review online. This past month, the review was targeted by the online attackers, who accused it of being inaccurate and "immoral."
Cui suspects both commenters are affiliated with the restaurant.
As of this morning, the top review on Butao Ramen's Dianping page is from an incensed diner who received similar treatment. The one-star review, published on May 19, recounts the attacks and claims that the writer suffered diarrhea for two days after eating at Butao in January. It's been viewed 10,000 times since being published, and has 97 comments.
Multiple negative reviews referencing the two commenters have also popped up on the Dianping page this past week, although the restaurant's overall rating – 3.5 stars for the last six months – hasn't changed.
When CUTV reporters visited Butao in person, staff claimed that management wasn't available to answer any questions.
As of May 20, Dianping staff told CUTV, the incident and both accounts are under investigation.
