There'll also be jerk chicken and an arts and crafts market, all at the Xichong seaside. Tickets include roundtrip bus transportation as well as entry into the beach.

Sat, Apr 21: Nocturnes at Brown Sugar Jar Public House

Leslie Liu and Dave Carey made waves on the Beijing scene last year with indietronica EP Dust into Glory, followed shortly by their studio album. Carey’s previous stint as guitarist in the short-lived Irish band The Empire Lights has given him industry insight, while Liu brings PR knowledge and business acumen from her full-time job in Ruder Finn. Read our interview with them here.

Apr 21, 8pm, RMB60 presale (RMB100 with album), RMB80 door. Brown Sugar Jar Public HouseSee event listingTickets.

Sat, Apr 21: OVUM at B10 Live

Tokyo’s four-piece instrumental rock band has toured the world since 2006, but their European tour of 2014 launched them in a new direction. The rockers took a radical change toward more expressive “metal-oriented instrumental rock,” with a heavier and more aggressive approach built onto their core sound. The result is a hard-driving performance that’s reinvigorating old fans and gathering new ones as they launch their China tour.

Apr 21, 8.30pm; RMB100 presale, RMB120 door. B10 LiveSee event listingTickets.

Sat, Apr 21: Madam X & Co. at Oil Club

Sat, Apr 21: Groove Lee at Lavo

The nine members of this jazzy group come from all around the world, but all share a love of funk, soul and blues. Their name pays tribute to the city where they came together – Hong Kong – but the ensemble is equally at home playing stages across the rest of the PRD.

Apr 21, 10pm; free entry. Lavo. See event listing.

Sun, Apr 22: Daniel Powter at A8 Live

Daniel Powter, the Canadian who stormed the European charts in 2005 with his single ‘Bad Day’ (from his self-titled release) tours China to recapture the magic. His latest album, the melodic and poppy Turn on the Lights may have been more than five years past, but the crooner is showing his spunk with a recent single (‘Delicious’) that brings fans back for another taste.

Apr 22, 8pm; RMB480 presale, RMB580 door, RMB880 VIP. A8 LiveSee event listingTickets.
