A man who has been missing for the past decade was recently discovered living on the streets in the southern Chinese city of Dongguan, in Guangdong province, according to Daily Mail.

Wang Yun, now 31 years old, was last seen by his family back in 2008, when he left his hometown in Hubei province and traveled to Guangdong looking for work. Wang was allegedly unable to find a job and was too embarrassed to return home, choosing instead to live his life on the streets.

Predictably, Wang’s decision left his mother, surnamed Feng, distraught. According to Daily Mail, she “missed him every day” and had difficulties sleeping, eventually becoming ill.

The heartbreak endured by Wang’s 56-year-old mother, though, came to an end last week when she was reunited with her son at an abandoned house in Dongguan on February 20. Feng was made aware of his location after being contacted by a volunteer organization called ‘Let Love Go Home,’ a group that aims to reconnect homeless people with their families.

The organization reportedly came across Wang on February 17 while distributing dumplings to homeless people for Spring Festival. He allegedly told the volunteers that he’d traveled to Dongguan with the hope of finding gainful employment, something he was unable to do after losing his ID card.

Let Love Go Home Founder Zhang Shiwei was able to convince Wang to provide his name and home address after promising to help him find work. With that information, the volunteers were able to get in contact with the chief of Wang’s village, who then passed on the news of Wang’s situation to his family.

When Feng was finally reunited with her son in Dongguan last week, she reportedly kept repeating: “Why didn't you come home? You have no idea how I lived through the [last] 10 years.”

For his part, Wang agreed to go home with his mother and told local media that he would try to contribute to his parents’ business.

This not the first time a missing person has been found living homeless in Dongguan. Back in August 2017, a missing Hong Kong man was discovered living on the streets of Dongguan 11 years after he vanished on March 11, 2006.
