As shoppers gear up for the biggest e-retail event of the year, China's so-called Singles Day, the National Development and Reform Commission released a list of 500 shady sellers, part of an effort to shore up trust in China's online retail scene.
A total of 87 of the 'discredited' companies – approximately 17 percent of the whole list – are based in Shenzhen. Although details are scarce on specific violations, the version of the list published by Shenzhen's Market and Quality Supervision Commission does show, from left to right, each company's name, business registration number, organization code, credit code and 'area(s) of discredit.'
The last category is vague, however, noting only whether a company made it onto a 'distrusted by executors list,' a 'suspended business list,' or both.

The Market and Quality Supervision Commission's report was accompanied by some common-sense tips for not getting ripped off online. Among them: avoid suspiciously low prices, read the fine print in seller policies and stick to trustworthy e-platforms.
Happy shopping this November 11!
