If you're living in Zhuhai, Huizhou or Shenzhen, you can breathe a little easier knowing that over the first nine months of this year, all three were among China's top 10 cities in terms of air quality.

Last Saturday, China's Ministry of Environmental Protection released data on 74 cities.

Among them, Shenzhen had the seventh best air quality. Huizhou was one spot ahead, while Zhuhai clocked in at an impressive fourth place.

On average, the nine cities of the Pearl River Delta saw 'good' air quality on 86.4 percent of days from January to September, a drop of 3.8 percent from last year.

The PRD also averaged PM2.5 and PM10 levels of 31 micrograms and 48 micrograms, respectively, which meets national standards.

On the other end of the spectrum, Beijing unsurprisingly ranked poorly, at number 68 out of the 74 cities. Despite setting ambitious goals to improve its air quality, the city may actually be getting worse.

Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Taiyuan and six cities in Hebei make up the rest of China's 10 worst-ranked cities in terms of air quality.
